The walking dead is a title by TellTale games that takes on a very narrative form of game play. Yes this is the "Oh God poker night and back to the sodding future TellTale games" actually I think that's their full name now. but honest they went to there room and thought about what they have done and now they have made something that has spread like aids in an orgy.So because of how everyone goes on I'm going to describe the premise without being all gushy. A black man who murdered a man having an affair with his wife kills his now zombie sheriff escort to prison and try's to survive. he soon meets a girl who is mixed race and takes her on his endeavours, everyone is racist because they think he is her dad. the rest of the story follows him fitting in to a role of surrogate father and starts to care for... ah fuck I did it. well you get the idea. Don't blame me I've just finished it.
This is a game which has a million ends and even more middle parts. each section is split in to a chapter which plays similar to others but always different depending on what you've done with it very similar to an ear, they're pretty similar until you change it and eh I'm getting of point. No matter how you play the game the ending is always nuts in a clamp sad. I've played through two of the endings and had to watch Yahtzee after to stop me from topping myself.
The story telling I amazing and even from the first chapter you can feel yourself applying your real life emotions to these characters and even start to hate some of them. by the end you will have such a strong bond with the character you play and the girl clementine you will find it hard to finish the game. Even characters you've only met temporarily you can hate or love, and I feel this is down to one thing Timing.
It is my honest opinion that you would not feel for these characters if it wasn't for the way they time different moments. it gives you just enough time to stop and think about the characters and then talk to them to develop how you feel even more. then during times when you need to0 make a quick decision it becomes instinctive and makes you choose almost faster than you can think and this means your less logical and more emotional. Yeah applying emotions to a game, that happens.
The reason you feel so much more while playing this than if you were to say watch it as a movie is because it is you, your decisions, your character and in the end your clementine and no other type of narrative can give you the same feeling.
Ok lets get on to the game itself, more specifically graphics. In short its borderlands had a cell shaded baby with the back to the future game. Now this may not seem like much, and trust me it pissed me of to start, but when you get a 1/4 through the first chapter you forget all about it and it seems to go perfectly. as a result you don't need a computer so fresh it smells like a Chinese fart to enjoy it in full quality. the way the colour scheme is you wouldn't be able to see much if it wasn't cell shaded either.the game play is basically like a typical point and click adventure except you control the character, so try this and this on this and this in this while its on her. its that sort of game. it works and feels good to be able to relax as you play. choices in dialog are made with one of the four buttons and unlike a lot of games its not clear cut like Y is asshole X is good guy and B is middle or whatever, there pretty ambiguous and feel like actual things you may say.
So this is an emotional game that packs in as much emotion as a bag full of ball kicks, and will have you on the edge of your seat as you get to the second episode.
